HISTORY OF COTE D'IVOIRE
The history of the Ivory Coast goes way back. It is widely accepted that the Ivory Coast was an area where people from the surrounding areas inhabited many years ago. One story of the founding of the Boule tribe is the queen Pokou sacrificed her son to cross a river. Once her people came to the other side by walking on the backs of Hippos, she cried out "Ba ouli" which means "the child is dead". Eventually europeans came to the Ivory Coast and in the year of 1887 Louis Gustave Binger (a town near Abidjan is named after him) began a two year travel of the area. He then concluded treaties making Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast in French) a protector for France. Cote d'Ivoire officially became a colony of France on march 10 1893.
After some time, Felix Houphouet-Boigny helped lead the Ivorians to Independence The Ivory Coast became one of the only countries to have a peaceful breakaway from France. Boigney then lead the country for the next 33 years, august seventh of 1960 to December seventh of 1993. August 7 is the national day of independence in the Ivory Coast. After Boigney there has been a few devastating civil wars but the Ivory Coast has still remained one of the strongest economic countries in Africa.
CULTURE OF COTE D'IVOIRE
In Ivory Coast Culture is very important. There are over sixty indigenous ethnic groups with around the same amount of languages. These many ethnics create a very diverse country. There are many events, festivals, music, forms of media, and other aspects of Ivorian culture that are so profoundly important in Ivorian life. In the region of Man (West Cote d'Ivoire) there is a festival called the Fetes des masques (Festival of Masks). During this festival people from all over the region compete in dancing to pay tribute to the spirits in the forests of Cote d'Ivoire.
There is another week long festival in the city of Bouake every march. There are other festivals in places like Abidjan and other villages and cities all throughout the Ivory Coast. There are other religious holidays the Ivory Coast celebrates.
Some of the largest groups of people are the Boule in the center, the Agri in the east pat of the country, the Senufo up north, the Dioula in the North western part of Cote d'Ivoire, the Bete in the center-west, and the Dan-Yacouba in the west. The Akan people have a large population int he Ivory Coast too.

Once you reach Bouke int he North, the ecosystem becomes more Savanah and dry then tropical rainforest as it is in the South. There are small hills throughout the southern Ivory Coast with Mountains in the North West . The Komonos hills are in the north near Burkina Faso and Savanah woodlands all throughout the North. There are also many rivers with he largest being the Comoe in the east, Bandama in the center, and the Sassandra coming from the northern mountains.
Some of the largest cities in Cote d'Ivoire include Abidjan in the south east. Abidjan is the largest city int he Ivory Coast. San Pedro is a beautiful city on the western tropic coast, Man in the high hills of north west cote d'Ivoire, Daloa in the center west, Yamoussoukro in the dead center of cote d'Ivoire, book int he mid north, and Korhogo in the Northern dry area of Cote d'Ivoire. Yamoussoukro is a very nice city, and also the capital, while Abidjan is the economic capital of the Country.
The wildlife of the Ivory Coast is magnificent. There are many different types of animals including monkeys, birds, elephants, buffalos, snakes, lizards, and bugs. There are also many types of trees and plants too. There are tropical rainforests in the south and west with grand trees and wild monkeys, while int he North there are Savanah dry lands with your classic African wildlife such as lions and hippos. Many years ago there were thousands of elephants and monkeys, but due to poaching and other hunting, many animals have gotten wiped.
ENTERTAINMENT OF COTE D'IVOIRE
The music of Cote d'Ivoire is very important to the people of Ivory Coast. The national anthem of Cote d'Ivoire is L'Abidjanaise. Many songs are in French, the official language of Cote d'Ivoire, but music can be found in other indigeus languages. Hip-hop, reggae, pop, are some of the most popular types of music. Musical influences come from Jamaica, the Caribbean, The United States, and other countries all around the world.
Some famous musicians from Cote d'Ivoire include artists such as Ariel Sheney and the late DJ Afrat. People in Cote d'Ivoire love dancing too. Many songs now a-days are made to dance with. Music from Congo and Mali and other French countries including France are popular too. One of these artists is Fally from Kinshasa Congo.
Soccer is the most popular sport in the Ivory Coast. There is a national team that has recently gone to the World Cup. Many players from cote d'Ivoire will eventually play in Europe. There is a professional league in the Ivory Coast too. The most famous Ivorian soccer player is Didier Drogba.
Some popular TV shows in Cote d'Ivoire is Ma Famille (My family). Another popular show is Super Flics, or Dr. Boris.

Some of these dishes are known as foutu banane sauce graine, Alloco (Plantains), Attieke, and many other dishes with vegetables, peanuts, cassavas, plantains, palm oil, and many fruits. In the cities and villages, you can seasonal find fruits like mangos, pineapples, and other fruits. Cocoa is very widely produced in the Ivory Coast. Many people in Cote d'Ivoire farm cocoa. Another tree that is widely planted is rubber trees. Fish and chicken are the two main meat sources people eat in Cote d'Ivoire. People will sometimes eat snails, toads, or other wild animals if they have the means or the ability too.
TOURISM IN COTE D'IVOIRE
There are some very exciting and fun things to do in the Ivory Coast. Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is one of the largest cathedrals on the Earth. It is located in Yamoussoukro. Another famous cathedral is St. Paul's Cathedral in Abidjan. It is also very large and extravagant. It is located in the commune of Abidjan called the Plato, near the water. Banco National Park is just north of Abidjan. It is a tropical rainforest with many beautiful trees. When you are traveling to Banco you will pass through areas of Abidjan like Abobo and Adjame. These are inner cities of Abidjan that are very interesting to see. There is also many mosques all throughout Cote d'Ivoire, each beautiful in their own way. There are other national parks in th eIvory Coast. Tai National park in the south west is a very dense rain forest where many animals such as chimpanzees and birds live. Comoe National Park is in the north east corner near Burkina Faso. It is a large Savanah park with many amazing sights too. There are many antelopes, monkeys, elephants, and more beautiful birds there too. One thing you can do if you are visiting from a country like America or France is to just drive and see villages and the way the people live. It is a really cool thing to see if you are from countries like that. It is cool to see the different ways people live and the different cultures people enjoy.

The Ivorians are tremendous people. They work very hard to not only help themselves, but to help their families and friends. They are some of the most humble people on Earth too. They have a history, they have a very diverse culture, they have food unlike anywhere else on Earth, there are many tremendous things about them. In the United States people speak English, and because of this reason many Americans have truble reaching out to French speaking countries like Cote d'Ivoire. On our team we have many bilingual people! We have the actual means to break the language barrier and help these people. As the person writing this, I am an American that lived in the Ivory Coast for five months. I can personally say (with the others on our team) that the people of the Ivory Coast do eat, they do sleep under roofs, they do work, they have religion, they're very similar to people all across the world. It is true though that if they could use some help going to school and getting more opportunities to get better jobs etc. They can really help change the world. Their humbleness, hard work attitude, and other attributes are perfect to really influence the world, so help these people!
